The Migration (AKA: tonight I bid farewell)

From now on you will find me here:

Attachment grows
Hard to part with my old home
Sentiments come and go
Under this roof I found myself
Inside these walls I broke the shell
Evolution calls
Possibility grows
I found my place
I found my own
Tonight I bid farewell with lyrics
Tonight I play this song

"Tonight, Tonight"
Time is never time at all
You can never ever leave without leaving a piece of youth
And our lives are forever changed
We will never be the same
The more you change the less you feel
Believe, believe in me, believe
That life can change, that you're not stuck in vain
We're not the same, we're different tonight
Tonight, so bright
And you know you're never sure
But you're sure you could be right
If you held yourself up to the light
And the embers never fade in your city by the lake
The place where you were born
Believe, believe in me, believe
In the resolute urgency of now
And if you believe there's not a chance tonight
Tonight, so bright
We'll crucify the insincere tonight
We'll make things right, we'll feel it all tonight
We'll find a way to offer up the night tonight
The indescribable moments of your life tonight
The impossible is possible tonight
Believe in me as I believe in you, tonight

You're in Milwaukee, off your feet

What to do when a tune invades your head?
You've had front row, prime time, and flavor of the month status before
No one called for an encore
Why are you back?
Who's playing you now?
Are bouncing off and back your laid out plans?
Pause, pause!
#NP no more!
(I wonder if it would fit within the multi headed thing).
You mean the title, the place, not the face...
Who's driving today?
Faster or slower when it rains?
Looking out the window, didn't notice at first
It was pouring the other way
First lane distinctively
In June I shall escape
This dark night of the soul.

Who is Ines Silva? and, what was I doing at her studio this morning?

Record, film, document! We must, we must, we must! - That's what I told this unpretentious Geometric Art sculptress when I stopped by her house a couple of nights ago to have some peas for dinner. True story.

I couldn't pass this opportunity to be part of this artist's creative process, at least as an observant. Ines is in the middle of preparing the pieces for her first European solo show this coming fall. You can read all about her work when YOU CLICK HERE!

Ines, do you need my help?
LOOOVE the sketches! (wink, wink... hoping to get one as a birthday gift).

JohAlice in Wonderland

Some of us gathered last week for my unBirthday party celebration.
It was going to be a small, quiet affair, but it turned out to be a heck of a bacchanal feast.
I SWEAR I only invited one guy, but everybody showed up!!!

***When unexpected visual accidents like these happen, attention must be paid (and images must be shared).***

Have you backed this creative project yet? What are you waiting for?

Nothing is sweeter than venturing into the sideroads - #TRLT

In case you haven't heard, I've been promoting the multi-headed artistic project called The Road Less Traveled on kickstarter
It will be the artistic adventure of the summer and I'm inviting everyone to join me during it. The Road Less Traveled is an art project turned adventure, filled with lots of improvising along the way. Creating while looking for inspiration in order to create is the process I usually go through. I have decided to open a window into this intimate part of my modus operandi and share every single step I take.

The concept behind all of this is to take myself out of my comfort zone in order to reach new levels of creativity. Sharing doesn't come easy to this artist...

Super Wallcast, Supermoon

(A collaboration of lyrics with No-Hint).
The fools moon by the supermoons

With a brigth side on your wide open eyes you bring us all apart by our own inner tides.
Silver platter serves us more
Deserving evening
Search your soul
Notes are playing while I float
Ground me later
Off I go
Tell me moon where we go ...should I play it as we go...
Leave me blind by the light that you stroke on us tonight

(The rest we won't share).

The Bamboo Wars

(Reported in real time).

What's with the chainsaw massacre?
We need to get rid of all...
But we'll be left with none!
I brought Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum.
You don't live here anymore.
Maybe they just want a front row show...
Down lay the casualties of this war.

Welcome May

What is this obsession of yours with the months?, asked the gentle lady with the accent from far away.
It's not an obsession, sometimes you just know.
It looks like too many. How will you handle the mix?
They only make sense when in sync.
Ok, but how does it translate?

Sometimes ladies from faraway do not get it, so I decided to get up and leave.

Sometimes you just know.

Jack, show me your stripes... What will you listen to, and why?

Enabler extraordinaire: Promise me you will do this... As soon as you leave the swampy lands behind, and feel the blood pumping from America's heart and its dry, dusty road you will play this guy.

I said "Why must I?"
I had heard the stories, seen White Stripes, but gave little credit at first to the why-should-I.
Tim Burtonesque face with lone ranger voice. I'm sure if I were as lucky during my adventure to bump into a modern day saloon these would be the sounds that would fill the place.

You were right!

The strongest pillar in the world

Let your mind start a journey thru a strange new world. Leave all thoughts of the world you knew before. Let your soul take you where you long to be... Close your eyes let your spirit start to soar, and you'll live as you've never lived before.
Erich Fromm

Words in green
Orange cave
Bubbly beard
Speechless me
Your Essence ever at the fore

The Road Less Traveled

The most awaited day of the year is here! Or it was... yesterday.
The day was so full of action that I had to wait until today to post what is the most exciting starting point of this year so far.

The Road Less Traveled is about taking yourself out of your comfort zone in order to expand your ability to absorb the world around you. So many times we rely on routine in our lives and move around the bubbles we create for ourselves. A while ago, without really noticing it, I decided to pop mine up. Months have gone by since I took this turn and it has been a heck of a creative ride.

This idea is taken even further by opening the first window into what is the most thrilling adventure within the adventure: making public something so personal as it is the creative process (at least for this artist).

The wonderful people of are hosting what will be my artistic project for this summer of 2012. Just in the first day 6 wondrous supporters have joined this adventure.

We love signed posters! - Nautica South Beach 2012

What is better than participating in a cause that encourages people to do something beneficial for themselves while helping others?
I know! Running, swimming and biking all along the beautiful Miami Beach in order to help St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in the fight against childhood cancer.

Thousands of athletes were part of the 5th annual stamina extravaganza named Nautica South Beach Triathlon last April 1st. Over $400,000 were raised for St. Jude, and that makes all of us very happy.

Once again, it was my pleasure to support the wonderful FedEx team with a commemorative poster for this year's event. We overdosed in sugar with all the pastries, cookies and what not that the team captain fed each one of the participants while they stopped by to say hello and take their signed poster.

In colored lines we shall swim.
2011 / 2012 posters with some team members.

Once there was a DJ

Who used to play some music
Great music
Smiths, late 80's and lots of New Wave
All to alleviate the stress caused by the late afternoon traffic
Warm, confidential voice
The city with the great green lungs
Déjà-vu filled afternoon
90's come back for a mere 5'54"
Humdrum university student lights up like a storm
Don't want to get home
Play me some more

The VV club

(An astrological joke).

You too?
Hell yeah!
I don't know what to do
Holy planet... Me three, I think we're doomed
How to change? How to change?
Blood-pumping muscle in war with head
Day and night, non-stop wrestling, lots of pain
I tried something the other day!
Did it work?
It did not, I must say...
Talk it out, let them know
It makes all scared, run away
Laugh it out, I don't care
Victims come, victims go
Sounds like war
To me it's a game
No one wins, still we play

This one, to my dear friends

Silver Surfer, watch, tornado ahead!

First time in white.

The Symbiosis activist (Friday's comparison chart)

One Friday there was the sun
There was the soil, burning orange, steaming hot
The ground exploding up, common it was not
Sharp point defense rised from green down there
Volcanic rock, dry earth
Indigo up, mystical borderland
Sweet, sweet smell
Hard labor's gift
Tingling instant with intent
Taste the moment, shut the brain

Labor again?
Recurring theme
Is April marching in reverse?

Subconscious keeps a tally
New brothers to the monumental head
Tangled up, allow themselves to melt

Reply to a thank you note

A Lion used to prowl about a field in which Four Oxen used to dwell. Many a time he tried to attack them; but whenever he came near they turned their tails to one another, so that whichever way he approached them he was met by the horns of one of them. At last, however, they fell a-quarrelling among themselves, and each went off to pasture alone in a separate corner of the field. Then the Lion attacked them one by one and soon made an end of all four.

Dark night of the soul (Geological Era)

But you said I was...
You f*ck*d it friend.
I could see for miles, miles, miles...
Saying nothing, everything burnt away.
Now I know it in my memory... (not enough for me).
You were not magnificent.

The Spiller (AKA: the story within the story within)

WOW! Who's responsible for this mess?!
(Silence and a highbrow glance at the attacker).
Who took so long to get from A to Z?
You mean you don't mind the multiple wine spills?
It took forever to read!
Breath deeply and shut your lids.
It makes no sense! It has no point to read within the story that's within.
That's why I need to see a tornado from up close, I'm sure the most interesting things are written inside of it. Not so much a want, it's more of a need.
AND WHAT IS THIS??!! Is this red? is this blue? why is the green creating this grid???
I was drinking and I spilled...
(with a calmer voice now) Terrible accidents happen everyday.
No mishap took place here...
Was this on purpose?
Yes, indeed!

The biggest enabler in the world

Don't play dumb.
I'd really like to know...
Grab a mirror, look what's in front.
You mean me?
Is anyone else called J***s?
You should do more!
With the mud, playing that song? The dress, the jumps?
I'll laugh out loud, then I'll say stop.
If, and only if you throw a fact that's not quite so...
Lightbulb lighting up in my head!!!
You make me proud, don't say, just do, then write about and it will do.

April and its burning Ring of Fire

What did you do last night, city girl?
I submitted my project to the wonderful people of
What are you doing tonight?
Playing a happy country girl while I wait for their answer...
Does the waiting make you feel out of your comfort zone?
It's April... anything is possible.
You didn't answer my question.
I'm taking The Road Less Travelled.

The night she wore a trenchcoat to dinner (AKA: Micro-Theatre soirée)

(Dinner finished)

I'll be back, I'm cold.
Cold after that cheese, pasta and soup?
I barely drank any wine...
Do you believe ghosts are around us?
I played with an Ouija board once.
I bet he walked all over you at night.
That was 'cause Ramona said NO to the 150k.
There are 5 people here, but only 4 seats.
Silence, please! The play on 2 is about to start!
And this guy?
He just woke up from his nap.

More wine!

Fighting the in-betweens

Fall down, fall low
Fail to sleep between the dreams
Short on time
Whilst expectations rise
Monster I can't control
Carry on with pride
Golden glow today gone
Distinct house, sit by the yard
Outside in, inside out
Looking in, no rules apply

You're always sleeping on my toaster

Isn't that what the song says???

That is what happens when you are editing and you mouse-over a clip a bit too fast.

Editing what???

Ok, ok... here's the real thing (I still think my version is more appropriate for the toaster).
I (heart) you Drums, you sound like summer!

Summer dreams

The Drums playing in the back (and below).

The sounds of Summer, baby!

Please, do not touch the thermostat...

...for the temperature is perfect now.
Those might be your wishes, but April is coming fast, and the room will get warmer, you see that?
It might be April next, but what I long for is June... Won't you also miss March?
It will always be imprinted in the history of my mind.
Like that ocean and the crystal clear blue sky.
Your trip with the lone soul soundtrack.
This building dates from this time back.
They are not aware of what they have! They need to geek life up.
Parenthesis overnight, shake-up ride back.
Medusa clouds following behind.
Huge painting, blue signature by the lower corner at the right.
Cold soup drink, time machine.
Complex time. Backdrop black.
Chose the turbine. 2% white.
Life moves fast, symbiosis molds you into art.

Old pictures in a bar

See? I wasn't lying.
I'll use the word "amazing" a hundred times over.
What about these old news? Look at this guy...
So proud a fisherman!
I wish I could slip my own picture under here somehow. Do you think they'd notice?
It's your town, it brought you here twice.
I have a couple at home, so old, they were printed on some sort of paper-board surface.
Ancient, then! I bet you they're signed.
Such passion for the ocean... I wish I could be born again to be like that.
You already are, like this guy who felt closer to the sky.
Can I see them? They make me remember mine...
Enjoy the digital ride while I sip my drink for breakfast.
She had style!
They flew everywhere, and he flew till the end.
It's funny to see the others looking extra-awkward in the back. And, what is she doing here?
She's posing with the autochthonous one.
I bet you'll make new friends when I'm gone.

I love it when the day is clear and you can see the bridge.
And I am sure I will come back.

Persuasion is better than force.

A dispute arose between the North Wind and the Sun, each claiming
that he was stronger than the other. At last they agreed to try their
powers upon a traveller, to see which could soonest strip him of his
cloak. The North Wind had the first try; and, gathering up all his
force for the attack, he came whirling furiously down upon the man,
and caught up his cloak as though he would wrest it from him by one
single effort: but the harder he blew, the more closely the man
wrapped it round himself. Then came the turn of the Sun. At first he
beamed gently upon the traveller, who soon unclasped his cloak and
walked on with it hanging loosely about his shoulders: then he shone
forth in his full strength, and the man, before he had gone many
steps, was glad to throw his cloak right off and complete his journey
more lightly clad.

The War against gravity

So, Gordon, tell me a bit about yourself.

I grew up in an apple farm.
I already feel envious... How many did you eat each day?
I only ate the ones that didn't fall down.
So you picked them right from the trees...
Not exactly.
What do you mean?
I only took the ones that were ready but didn't want to fall.
Were they fighting gravity?
It was a war.
Tell me more!
There were bees, there was wind and magic carpet dreams.
All in one? Sounds like a collage.
Lo-fi magic, where the carpets creep up from floor to wall.
Can you fly? And, what about this mirror beehive? Shouldn't it be a ball?
There's one inside, over the honey seat
Can I drive?
You can't know where you're going if you don't know where you've been.

Peacock like lights.

Mirrored beehive.

The War Against Gravity, by Gordon Harrison Hull.
I walked into Rockefeller Center's Anthropologie as I always do when I visit NY, excited to see what they were exhibiting in their small gallery space. It took some strong will not to climb onto the Magic Peacock Tricycle and take it for a spin.

A couple of days after arriving home I needed to satisfy my curiosity about this artist. Who is he and why? Little did I know that I would bump into a bag full of tricks. Turns out that Mr. GHH is the co-founder of Surface-to-Air, a multidisciplinary creative company based in Paris, where they collaborate with great fashion brands like Adidas, Marc Jacobs,  Barneys NY and SUNO, among others.

The cherry on top? This short film for the colored-print-porn infused SUNO, one of my personal favorites. Enjoy! Shut! (How do I embed a video here??? Just click if you're curious.)

The Gypsy Box (AKA: There and back again)

(Jamming session).

The energy is extraordinary!
You're missing all the fun.
I know... I've been sick.
But not today, the day is gorgeous! Take my bike. Wear my helmet.
Mushroom shaped head?
Wrapped tightly around your face.

(Pedaling session).

Back to the academy. Warm-up session starts. Circled round, counting up, clap, point, move.
Brazilian massage??
Stomp, repeat.
Stomp, clap, shout. IMPROVISE.
We're writing a song.
We are what?
You'll see.
Stop the games, now we play.

About MiMa Music
First things first... they love to improvise! And through that they turn what seems to be simple games into music.
But how, how, how? It has taken me a long time to completely understand what makes MiMa's teaching method so special. I had to take a plane and visit their academy in Brooklyn to experiment it first hand.

Here's what they have to say about themselves: MIMA Envoys travel around the world and use music improvisation and media to engage and enrich communities. MIMA started in 2000 at Princeton University and has grown into an international network of envoys, teachers and musicians in countries such as Argentina, Brazil, Cyprus, El Salvador, Greece, and the USA.
